There are number of variables to consider. Towing an inflatable does cause drag, and they can be capsized in the wrong sea and weather conditions. One has to always be concerned about the dinghy when maneuvering, not to mention the risk of catching the towline in a prop. Towing does allow for easy use. Carrying the inflatable on the big boat eliminates these hazards, but does make the launching of the boat a bit more of a chore. Carrying the boat does eliminate the need for bailing out after a heavy rain if the drain plug is left out. Davit systems and deck cranes are available which make launching and retrieval an easy job.
